week 4, IF progress check

1 simulator session and 3 flights this week.

I was not scheduled to fly on Monday but due to bad weather. But I found an instructor and a co pilot who were able to do a sim session with me. I had to fly from Beek to Eindhoven. Everything went pretty well. During the our final maneuver to intercept the ILS our instructor gave us a suction and alternator failure. Which let us without our artificial horizon and 30 min. of battery power left. It was not easy to intercept and follow the ILS with limited panel but we managed. Because I was so concentrated following the localizer and glideslope and my copilot looking for the first sign of the approach lighting system we both failed to see, when we passed 500 ft before our minima, that we also had a to high EGT and CGT temperature. Also our propeller governor failed but since our RPM was so low it was to difficult to notice. Anyway, the last failures could not have been solved on our final approach.

On Tuesday I flew with Leon to Sevilla and made 1 VORDME and 1 ILS with a circle to land. Wednesday 1 flight in the training area with a simulated approach at Jerez. On Friday I had my IF Progress check. A 2 hour flight with a different instructor to Lisbon and Cascais. We were initially cleared to fly the Ateca 7A arrival to the IAF for an ILS approach to rwy 03 at Lisbon. Unfortunately this clearance was cancelled due to too much traffic. So we could only do the VORDME approach to rwy 35 at Cascais. The flight went well and I passed.

An Iberia CRJ jet lined up rwy 09 at Seville while we did the run up

Last Friday we went with a small group to Italiano, a good and cheap Italian restaurant

On Tuesday we played football on a field near the hotel. You can check out the movie in the movie section. If you want so see my goal, it's around 04:30 min. hehe

week 3, not much flying

Another week has come and went by, unfortunately not much flying this week. Only one flight to Beja and the training area on Wednesday. AI0309 had all priority for their IF checks. Nevermind, we will also get priority when we have to do our checks.

On Wednesday Frank and Ruud and on Thursday Diederik and Jose passed their IF checks and because of the fine weather we were able to have an old fashion balcony party to celebrate this.

Jose was really happy to pass her IF check (duh!) next week she will do her CPL (commercial pilot license) exam.

Friday morning my roommate sebas had a sim session so he, Mart, who also had to do a session, and myself (as copilot) went to school by taxi. Our colleagues were still sleeping and waking up from last night's party. In the Afternoon there was the wings 2004 ceremony. All graduates from 2004 got their wing. It was a really big happening. My first instructor Hugo Fernandes who went to TAP last year was also there. He almost finished his coarse for the A320!

The wings ceremony gave the opportunity to make a nice group picture. This is AI0311 in front of the Piper Seneca V. Leon is missing because he was ill and stayed home and Fabian...yeah where did he go?
(on the frontpage you can view a picture of all Dutch students in Evora at this moment)

This picture was taken yesterday, January 22...still winter in Portugal, not bad eh!

I'm not scheduled to fly on Monday but I hope I will be for the rest of the week. Maybe we will start with night flying :-)

Stayed tuned more to come next week!

Bas

week 2

Hey all,
4 flights this week with Badajoz (spain), Beja, Cascais, Sintra and Faro as destinations.
Next monday I'm not rosterd because my instructor will have his annual medical examination. Tuesday Leon and myself will fly a trip to Faro and Sevilla. I will have to fly the return trip Sevilla Evora.
Weather is getting better over here. I have been sitting at our balcony all day. temperature is 25 degrees centigrade!

This week the ph-sxd arrived from the netherlands to increase the capacity on the TB20. despite it's age, it flies perfectly!

Light house near Cascais en Sintra.

Thursday a formation of epsilons made a low pass at our airfield. Some of us waited at the balcony next to the tower to see the formation. You can check out a movie about this pass, which I made standing near the runway, in the movie section.

Made 2 vordme approaches at faro. short final runway 10.

Bas

2005 week 1
